Career Fair Tips for Attendees
It is rare that a number of employers will gather for several hours in a purposeful effort to meet you and other job seekers. Make sure you make the best of this opportunity.
Develop a strong resume
Highlight your skills and accomplishments. Your resume should be error-free, concise and graphically pleasing. Bring multiple copies.
Bring business cards
Business cards are an easy way to distinguish yourself. List your name, contact information, and perhaps the career you’d like to pursue or your key skills.
Learn about the organizations attending the fair
Learn something about each of the companies. The more informed you are, the more likely you will be positively remembered.
Dress appropriately
Dress professionally to attend a career fair. When in doubt, overdress.
Develop a 30-second “commercial”
Spend a little time beforehand and prepare to answer the question, “Tell me a little about yourself.”
Prepare
For federal agency jobs, check out position descriptions at http://www.usajobs.gov. Print out a copy of the job descriptions you are interested in as a reference point when speaking with recruiters.
