Funding the Future

Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders are one of the fastest growing communities of eligible voters in the United States. It is imperative for our voices to be at the decision-making table in order for our communities to receive the necessary resources and support to achieve an equitable society. Full participation and representation at all levels of government is more urgent than ever before.

More than 30 years ago, the Conference on Asian Pacific American Leadership (CAPAL) was founded with a mission to empower Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander youth by increasing access to public service opportunities and building a strong AANHPI public service pipeline. Today, we have served over 600 emerging leaders by providing scholarships for students to pursue public service opportunities and life-changing holistic leadership development.

“My experience as a CAPAL Scholar played a pivotal role in helping me realize my goals for the future. Significantly, CAPAL offered meaningful, insightful programming throughout the summer. The conversations that I had with my mentor, fellow scholars and interns, and roundtable speakers from various government departments intensified my passion for public service and provided me guidance on how to spearhead change within my local AAPI community.”

– Sora Heo, 2021 Public Service Scholar
