Agnes Mok is a rising senior at Pomona College in Claremont, CA, pursuing a major in Philosophy, Politics, and\u00a0 Economics (PPE). This summer, she is interning at the USDA Animal Plant Health Inspection Service. <\/span><\/p>\n

As an administrative intern, she is working on a project for the Chiefs of Staff regarding workflows and document managements systems. She conduct interviews with USDA staff and reports the information and conclusions to the Chiefs of Staffs, so they can move forward with a pilot program on a new internal system.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How does this internship fit with your professional and career goals?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I am learning a lot about the structure of bureaucracy within a federal agency and communications\/workflow processes both internally and with external government branches, agencies, and individuals.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What do you hope to achieve this summer as a part of CAPAL\u2019s Summer 2020 Cohort?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I hope to gain a strong bond with my cohort, a deeper understanding of AANHPI leadership and public service, fruitful relationships with mentors, and confidence in pursuing a career after graduation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What does public service mean to you?<\/strong><\/p>\n

To me, being a good public servant means fighting for those who are most vulnerable \u2013 those whose survival depend most on the protection that good policy extends, those who do not have the luxury of being apolitical, and those whose lives have been disregarded and whose voices have been unheard.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What are your favorite hobbies?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I enjoy writing, reading, playing piano, going on hikes, and exploring new cities.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Namesake<\/span><\/i> by Jhumpa Lahiri.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Crash Landing on You! It\u2019s such a good and engaging Korean drama and <\/span>supposedly<\/span><\/i> presents the most accurate on-screen depiction of the DPRK to date, as the production and writing team recruited DPRK defectors to contribute and be consulted for accuracy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
