She graduated with a BA in Global Studies with dual-concentrations in Religion, Culture, Society and Economics and International Business and triple minors in Religious Studies, Biology, and Political Science. Kathleen is the founding President of the College’s first pan-Asian student organization and has served in a variety of leadership roles such as Class President, Head Resident Advisor, Admissions Ambassador, and Peer Tutor for Economics. This summer, she is a program fellow for US-Asia’s inaugural IMPACT Program for Filipino-Americans, where she was placed at CAPAL as the Development & Alumni Engagement Intern.

What are the projects that you’re working on this summer?

As the Development & Alumni Engagement intern for CAPAL, my projects include: researching and managing databases for CAPAL’s Funder relations and internship placements, as well as verbal and written outreach to alumni for CAPAL’s Oral History project. The majority of my time goes to the Oral History project, compiling testimonials and details about CAPAL’s alumni. The goal is to use these findings to create infographics supporting CAPAL’s mission to maintain a AANHPI pipeline for roles in public service. I would also like to create an Alumni Spotlight much similar to the Intern Spotlight for CAPAL’s website. I think it is really important to understand CAPAL’s extensive history in public service and how its programming has definitely led to countless success stories.

How does this internship/scholarship fit with your professional and career goals?

I have a passion for a lot of things, people to people connections is one of them. My current internship at CAPAL absolutely satisfies my love to connect with others and the bigger picture goal to get more AANHPIs in roles of public service. This internship has provided me already with a lot of opportunity to take on a project that has a lot of room to grow and this kind of opportunity excites me because CAPAL is such a great organization and I want to meaningfully contribute to it as much as I can. My way of paying it forward to an organization that has done just that since its inception.

What do you hope to achieve this summer as a part of CAPAL’s 2020 cohort?

Despite our virtual setting, I am excited to get to know my fellow S&I cohort and get started on our CAP projects!

What does public service mean to you?

I identify as a servant-leader and serving my peers and my community has always been my goal.
