Akansha Khurana is a rising senior in the Honors College at Rutgers University, double majoring in Economics and Psychology. This summer, she will be interning at Asian American LEAD (AALEAD).<\/span><\/p>\n

What are your main responsibilities at your position? What are some of your big projects?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

This summer I am working as a Communications & Development Intern with Asian American Lead, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing resources for educational empowerment, identity development, and leadership development, to underserved youth in the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area. As a Communications & Development Intern I have several ongoing projects, including the maintenance of our donor information using a CRM database, the development of a long term social media strategy plan and content calendar, and the curation of newsletters to maintain relationships with parents who have children in the programs. My CAP project is also with AALEAD, and I am developing an alumni & parent engagement plan along with three of my fellow CAPAL cohort members.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How does this internship fit with your professional and career goals?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I am fortunate to have the opportunity to intern with Asian American LEAD, because as an Asian American the plights that impact the AAPI community are very important to me. AALEADs mission is one that closely aligns with my own and as such, I have had the opportunity to contribute to an invaluable societal mission while equipping myself with skills that I can utilize in my professional life as well.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What do you hope to achieve this summer as a part of CAPAL\u2019s 2021 cohort?<\/strong><\/p>\n

This summer I hope to build meaningful connections with the other CAPAL cohort members!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What does public service mean to you?<\/strong><\/p>\n

To me public service is making meaningful and tangible impacts on the people around you, no matter how big or small, that in turn create ripple effects in the communities you touch.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Did you pick up any new hobbies during\u00a0quarantine, and if so, what are they?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cooking! My favorite part of cooking is getting ideas for new foods and seeing if I can put the dish together without using a recipe.<\/span><\/p>\n
