What are your main responsibilities at your position? What are some of your big projects?\u00a0(this can include projects at your internship, your specific CAP project, etc)\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 As CAPAL\u2019s Development & Community Engagement Intern this Summer 2022, my main responsibilities include developing fundraising programs, donation acquisition, and producing development proposals for alumni engagement events. Additionally, for my Community Action Project I am partnered with <\/span>NAAPIMHA, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving mental health within the AANHPI community. Our intended impact through this CAP project is to expand outreach to high school and college students to strengthen the national initiative to address mental health issues in the AANHPI community which have been exacerbated by the rise of anti-Asian hate crimes. Finally, I am responsible for producing reports on CAPAL\u2019s weekly Washington Leadership Program.<\/span><\/p>\n

How does this internship fit with your professional and career goals?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0I entered the urban planning field with a mindset centered on public service and community engagement. I knew that whichever path I decided, I wanted to have a positive and tangible impact on the communities that matter to me. This internship fits within my professional and career goals because it will equip me with valuable and relevant skills in the context of NGO public work. Additionally, CAPAL\u2019s mission to establish a more accessible public service pipeline for the AANHPI community resonates with my ambitions toward becoming a public servant.<\/span><\/p>\n

What do you hope to achieve this summer as a part of CAPAL\u2019s 2022 cohort?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 Through this internship, I hope to acquire an understanding of the ins-and-outs of the NGO sphere within the public sector. Additionally, I am excited to improve my interpersonal, professional, and community engagement skills through this program. I am excited to be equipped with the tools necessary to be a future leader within the AANHPI community.<\/span><\/p>\n

What does public service mean to you? What sparked your interest or desire to get involved with public service?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Growing up, I saw first-hand the impact that the kindness and support of a loving community could afford. I come from a place of privilege in the sense that I was lucky to have multiple support systems that encouraged me to be the best that I can be. Whether that be the local Filipino community, the local church, or community leaders that all made the choice to be a place of guidance for me. Influenced by those around me, I acquired values of community and support which naturally piqued my interest in public service. Public service to me means uplifting those in the community who need it most and providing them the resources necessary to have the opportunity to be their most successful self. I was privileged to have supportive community leaders in my life \u2014 and now I hope I could follow their example.<\/span><\/p>\n
