The program provides a paid opportunity for students to work in public service. While the deadline for applications is March 7th, the priority deadline is February 14th. The annual summer program lasts for approximately 10 weeks and includes individual mentorship and participation in CAPAL\u2019s Washington Leadership Program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe CAPAL Scholarship and Internship Program provides a great opportunity for Asian Pacific American students who are interested in public service and policy,\u201d said CAPAL Chair Gita Ram. \u201cWe provide these passionate young people with resources to support their work and place many of them in government and public service internship positions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CAPAL\u2019s Federal Internship Program awards interns a $3,000 stipend (plus $500 towards relocation expenses) and places qualified students within federal agencies in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. In some instances, interns have been placed in regional offices in California, Texas, and Wisconsin.<\/p>\n<p>The Public Service Scholarship Program provides $3,500 scholarships for students with unpaid summer internships in the Washington, DC area.  Students are responsible for securing an internship with a government or nonprofit organization.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCAPAL has given me an invaluable opportunity that I am thankful for. This summer, I have met amazing professionals who were willing to help me with my career endeavors,\u201d stated Kelly Kim, an intern from CAPAL\u2019s 2013 Federal Internship Program. \u201cCAPAL provided me with an internship at the Forest Service where I got to work in an awesome environment, with great people, striving towards a great mission.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The program provides students an opportunity to gain real-world experience working in public service, either through the federal government or nonprofit organizations. The 2013 class of CAPAL Scholars and Interns totaled 19 students, the organization\u2019s largest class to date. This year, in honor of the organization\u2019s 25th anniversary, CAPAL aims to fund 25 scholarship and internship positions.
