\"AnishaAnisha Singh is the Campaign Manager for Legal Progress at American Progress. In this capacity, she shapes the conversation around the nation\u2019s judicial process by managing unprecedented grassroots organization efforts across the country to educate Americans on the need to fill judicial vacancies with diverse, progressive judges so that historic backlogs can be remedied and cases can be heard in a timely manner.<\/p>\n

She previously served as a policy attorney and project manager for United Sikhs, where she focused on human and civil rights advocacy on behalf of minority communities internationally, with an emphasis on post-9\/11 discrimination concerns. She single-handedly managed the Washington, D.C., chapter, cultivating key relationships with the White House and on Capitol Hill, and founded United Sikhs\u2019 national Anti-Bullying Campaign to proactively assist victims of bullying through presentations and resources in partnership with the White House Anti-Bullying Initiative and the U.S. Department of Education. As counsel for United Sikhs, Singh won a historic anti-discrimination case against the U.S. Army, and prior to that, as a student at the University of Virginia School of Law Immigration Law Clinic, she won a case as counsel for female clients seeking legal status under the Violence Against Women Act, both of which landed national media attention.<\/p>\n

Singh brings with her more than nine years of experience in public interest and social justice work, as well as a strong grassroots-organizing background. Singh\u2019s legal background includes immigration, employment discrimination, labor, civil rights, international criminal justice, and trial advocacy.<\/p>\n

Singh received her B.A. with summa cum laude honors in political science and communication studies from Florida State University and received her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. She was named one of Forbes magazine\u2019s \u201c30 under 30\u201c for law and policy in 2016.<\/p>\n

June Kao is a marketing consultant of the AARP Multicultural Leadership\u2019s Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Audience team. For the past five years, her work has focused on collaborative and innovate efforts to engage the AAPI 50 and older community.<\/span><\/p>\n

Caregiving has been a focus of the AARP AAPI team and June, as the coordinator of the caregiving work has focused on the production of content as well as community engagement. \u00a0She oversaw the production of two caregiving films, <\/span>Caregiving Dahil Mahal Kita<\/span><\/i> and <\/span>Caregiving: The Circle of Love<\/span><\/i> which are used as a catalyst for starting the \u201cPrepare to Care\u201d conversations in the AAPI community.<\/span><\/p>\n

June\u2019s caregiving work also includes: creating an Asian American English and a Chinese language versions of AARP\u2019s \u201cPrepare to Care work book\u201d; developing and presenting an intergenerational \u201cPrepare to Care\u201d workshop; and leading the November Caregiving month social media campaign which shared 15 AAPI caregiver stories that generated 23,681 Facebook engagements.<\/p>\n

In addition to caregiving, June focuses on how AARP can engage with AAPIs on fraud prevention and confronting age stereotypes. She oversees the Chinese American audience experience.<\/p>\n

Board service for June includes: Chair of the Board of Directors for the East Coast Asian American Student Union, a network of over 150 schools and formerly on Board of Directors for the Conference on Asian Pacific American Leadership. She was co-director of New York City Asian American Student Conference and co-chair of Asian Heritage Month at NYU. June was raised in New Jersey and graduated from New York University with a B.A. in Psychology.<\/p>\n

The AANHPI Roundtable Series provides an opportunity for students and young professionals in Washington, DC to learn from public service leaders in our community in an intimate and conversational setting. Each roundtable features one public service leader and accommodates at most 25 attendees. Every roundtable session is free and open to the public, however, due to a limited seating we encourage attendees to register in order to ensure a seat.\u00a0Lunch will be provided.<\/p>\n

The Conference on Asian Pacific American Leadership (CAPAL) seeks to empower Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) youth by increasing access to public service opportunities and building a strong AANHPI public service pipeline.
