She previously served as Chief of Staff for the state of Tennessee\u2019s Department of Education. A seasoned leader and former high school teacher, she reorganized and restructured the department to reflect strategic priorities, and created a more streamlined budget process that allowed for improved personnel decision-making and better use of resources. <span class=\"il\">Kang<\/span> was part of the team that implemented policies and offered support to districts and schools that resulted in Tennessee becoming one of the fastest improving states in the nation in student achievement outcomes. Prior to joining Tennessee\u2019s education department, <span class=\"il\">Kang<\/span> worked for Teach For America, where she was a managing director of program for the organization\u2019s regional office in the District. She led a team of program directors supporting middle and high school teachers in schools across the District and Prince George\u2019s County. <span class=\"il\">Kang<\/span> holds a Bachelor\u2019s Degree in international politics from Georgetown University and a J.D. from Harvard Law School, and was a Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Graduate Scholar.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">Moderator Leangelo Acuna<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-10393\" src=\"http:\/\/site.capal.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Leangelo-Bio-Picture-e1497912529407-218x300.jpg\" alt=\"Leangelo - Bio Picture\" width=\"218\" height=\"300\" \/>Leangelo Acuna is currently the Program Assistant for the Gates Millennium Scholars Program at the Asian &amp; Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund (APIASF). At APIASF, he supports Scholarship operations and Scholar programming, as well as develops their social media strategy. A graduate from the University of Virginia, he previously interned for the U.S. Department of Agriculture through the Conference on Asian Pacific American Leadership (CAPAL), as well as for the Office of Congressman Mike Honda (D-Silicon Valley). Each roundtable features one public service leader and accommodates at most 25 attendees. Every roundtable session is free and open to the public, however, due to a limited seating we encourage attendees to register in order to ensure a seat.\u00a0Lunch will be provided.<\/p>\n<p>The Conference on Asian Pacific American Leadership (CAPAL) seeks to empower Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) youth by increasing access to public service opportunities and building a strong AANHPI public service pipeline.
