2017 Resume Writing and Interview Workshop

Hear from experienced professionals in the government, private and nonprofit sectors on how best to present your experience on a resume and in an interview. The workshop will include presentations and break-out time for participants to have their resumes reviewed by professionals and practice interview skills. The event is FREE and open to the public. Dinner is provided.
The workshop is in preparation for Conference on Asian Pacific American Leadership (CAPAL)’s Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander Career Fair held the following week on Friday, July 21, 11-2pm.
Ryan Namata is currently the Senior Specialist for Chief HR Executive Engagement at HR People + Strategy, the Society for Human Resource Management’s executive network. He has over 14 years of experience as an HR and Projects professional, working in varied industries, from a small startup to a Fortune 500 company and including the non-profit space. He has extensive corporate experience in the areas of staffing, workforce and strategic planning, training and professional development, HR information systems, change management and engagement. He has several leadership roles, including officer and board member, at affinity groups that promote diversity and inclusion. He is currently the President of the National Association for Asian American Professionals (NAAAP) DC Chapter, President of Voices of SHRM Toastmasters club and Intelligence Community Heritage Council Liaison. Ryan Namata is a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park and is also a certified Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR) and certified SHRM-Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP).
Bryan Acton is presently the Workforce Recruiter for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Office of Diversity and Inclusive Workforce Management; he has 18 years of recruiting, retention, and attrition management experience. Bryan has extensive knowledge in veteran outreach, government employment, diversity, inclusion, and various other initiatives. After 14 years of faithful service Bryan left the Army at the rank of Sergeant First Class (E7), which includes four years in the Marine Corps. While on active duty, Bryan held several positions to include, Infantrymen, Marine Corps Marksmanship Instructor, Recruiter, and Drill Sergeant. One of his career highlights is becoming The Arizona Army National Guard’s recruiter of the year in 2010 making over 162 percent of his assigned mission, for this Bryan received the Meritorious Service Medal. To attain this it required Bryan to be top in several metrics, including pre-basic warrior care, recruit graduation rate, and assigned unit retention rate. During his career, Bryan has trained and mentored well over 3,000 men and women in all facets of their military career from enlistment, basic training, and career development. After leaving military service, Bryan has assisted approximately 1,000 wounded, ill, or injured service members and veterans with post-military employment.
Jean Schindler is the Senior Advisor for the Penn Kemble Forum on Democracy at the National Endowment for Democracy. The Forum promotes bipartisan conversation between young foreign policy leaders on the role of democracy and human rights within the context of a broad range of policy questions. Jean is also the cofounder and Director of the Emergent Leaders Network, a small non-profit that provides scholarships and mentoring to community college students. Jean has a BA from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and an MA from the London School of Economics (LSE).
