Congratulating Co-Founder Chantale Wong on Historic Confirmation as U.S. Director of Asian Development Bank
February 8, 2022
The Conference on Asian Pacific American Leadership (CAPAL) celebrates the historic confirmation of Chantale Wong as the U.S. Director of the Asian Development Bank. In this role, she will represent the United States on the Bank’s Board of Directors, which is responsible for the direction of the Bank’s general operations, including policy decisions, borrowing and budget approvals, and more. In 2020, the Bank committed more than $31 billion in loans, grants, equity investments, and guarantees to governments and the private sector across Asia and the Pacific.
With this confirmation, Chantale is the first out lesbian in our country’s history to ever serve with the rank of U.S. ambassador. Chantale previously served as the Chief Financial Officer and Vice President for Administration and Finance at the Millennium Challenge Corporation, in addition to senior appointments at the Office of Management and Budget, Treasury Department, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and Environmental Protection Agency.
Chantale co-founded CAPAL more than 32 years ago to bring together and invest in emerging Asian American and Pacific Islander leaders in public service.
“The entire team at CAPAL applauds Chantale’s momentous confirmation for this distinguished role,” says Shaima Ahmad, CAPAL’s Managing Director. “Chantale is an exemplary and thoughtful leader and role model that truly personifies our core mission—to increase access to public service opportunities and build a strong Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander public service pipeline. We look forward to her valuable contributions in this new role.”
